Recycle your old CFL bulbs at your local Home Depot
Worried about what to do with your old compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs, especially since it’s unlawful in some states, including California, to dispose of any lamps containing mercury into regular solid waste trash? And CFL bulbs contain mercury.
Worry no more, thanks to Home Depot’s in-store, consumer compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb recycling program.
To use this free service, available at all of its stores, just take in any expired, unbroken CFL bulbs, and give them to the store associate at the returns desk.
The bulbs will then be managed responsibly by an environmental management company who will coordinate packaging, transportation and recycling to maximize safety and ensure environmental compliance.
Other choices
If you're not keen on taking your CFL bulbs to Home Depot, there are other alternatives available. If you live in California, visit this state Web site that provides other options.
