Interstate 5 is located 15 miles west of Wasco, providing direct access to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, as well as the Canadian and Mexican borders. Interstate 5 is directly accessible via State Highway 46 which passes directly through Wasco.
State Highway 99 is located 6 miles east of Wasco, providing direct access to Bakersfield, Fresno, Sacramento, and Los Angeles (via Interstate 5). State Highway 99 is also directly accessible via State Highway 46. In addition to linking Wasco with Interstate 5 and State Highway 99, State Highway 46 provides direct access to California's Central Coast.
State Highway 43, which also passes directly through Wasco, provides direct access to the Central Valley farming communities such as Shafter, Hanford, and Corcoran.
State Highway 58, conveniently accessible from both Interstate 5 and State Highway 99, is one of only four major highways which connect California with those states to the east. Unlike Donner Pass in northern California which can be closed for days during the winter months, State Highway 58 is rarely closed for more than a few hours due to snow and ice. The severe congestion in southern California poses another set of problems for intestate freight transportation into and out of Los Angeles and San Diego which are not encountered in the southern San Joaquin Valley.
